Union Minister for Human Resource Development Smriti Irani deserves compliments for being a vigilant citizen and exposing a closed circuit television camera directed at a trial room of a garment showroom in Goa that operates under a nationally-reputed brand name. Ms Irani was on a private visit to the State. She informed the local MlA who rushed to the place with the police. A case has now been registered under provisions of outraging the modesty of a woman.
The culprits should be publicly exposed through a policy of ‘name and shame' as a deterrent against such tactics by others. It is known that such practices are not uncommon and are in force in other stores as well across the country. The good thing so far is that the renowned retail-chain has been named in the media and has received tremendous negative publicity. But this is not enough. The culprits have to be given exemplary punishment.
