Ever since the ‘Gujarat development model' started attracting attention worldwide, Chief Minister Narendra Modi's stature has grown exponentially, as have people’s expectations to see him as the nation's next Prime Minister.
Unfortunately, his detractors have orchestrated a propaganda to demonise him as ‘communal' on account of the 2002 Gujarat violence in which the perpetrators were arrested, put on trial and punished by the courts in Gujarat. Compare this to the anti-Sikh genocide of 1984 in Delhi. How many of those who unleashed the massacre were punishedIJ Ironically, many of the tainted Congress leaders were rewarded with plum berths in Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's Cabinet, while the families of the victims languished for justice. But nobody calls Rajiv Gandhi ‘communal’.
Similarly, more than five lakh Kashmiri Pandits have been violently ousted from the Valley and their temples destroyed by separatists. But the so-called ‘secularists' see nothing wrong in this. One wonders whether they really are interested in the growth and development of the country. For now they seem intent only in pursuing their petty vote-bank politics.
