Sir — This refers the editorial, “More than just cricket” (November 18). Some people believe that Sachin Tendulkar got the Bharat Ratna just for his performance in cricket.
But, as you have pointed out, Sachin is a complete national icon. He played cricket as it is known — a gentleman’s game. He has lived a gentleman’s life throughout. It is these qualities that have made him an icon for millions of Indians and it is for his cricketing genius too that he has been recognised with the Bharat Ratna.
