Sir — This refers to reports that the Uttar Pradesh Government has simplified the land acquisition process. Amid a united Opposition fighting tooth and nail to stem the passage of the Union Government’s land acquisition Bill in Parliament, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has given its assent to a plan simplifying the process of sale and purchase of land after a simple agreement between the seller and the buyer.
This decision will eliminate lengthy processes and help farmers get value for their land as agreed upon between the purchasers and them. As per the procedure, even the Government as a buyer will have to pay two and four times the circle rates in the urban and rural areas respectively, under the supervision of a committee headed by the District Magistrate concerned.
