Sir — Mr Narendra Modi has rightly said that caps are not a symbol of unity. He also boldly said he will not hoodwink the people by donning skull caps, a ritual he described as minority appeasement.
Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and lal Bahadur Shastri never wore skull caps to flaunt their secularism. No one needs to prove his secular credentials by wearing a skull cap, a cross or a tilak.
