Shun partisan politics

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Incorrigible Congress” (April 19). The Congress’s response to acts of terror has always been facile and more often than not aimed at trying to deflect attention of the public and the investigative agencies from the attendant issues of security and intelligence failure. The recent Bangalore-blast case is no exception, which senior Congress leader Shakeel Ahmad made light of by saying that the incident would help the BJP, coming as it did ahead of the Assembly poll in Karnataka.

It is small comfort that the party has downplayed Mr Ahmad’s utterly callous and unacceptable comments. But these remarks also reflect the mindset of a party that is deeply entrenched in partisan politics.

Ironically, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who had promptly sent a message to the US President, sharing his grief and outrage over the recent Boston Marathon blast case, is yet to show similar concern in respect to the Bangalore incident. Is the plight of those injured here any less seriousIJ

One can only hope that the absence of any open show of concern is not because the obvious target of this recent act of terrorism was the local BJP office.
