This refers to the article, “In the business of human misery” (May 13) by Sankar Sen. The writer has flagged a thought-provoking subject and has raised eyebrows to highlight human misery as a tool to add fuel to fire in an hour of downright crisis and concern. What the earthquake has done in Nepal is now well-known to the entire world. But at the same time, what the human traffickers are doing to encash on the tragedy, is shocking. They get away with it largely because the authorities are busy grappling with the natural crisis.
The enormous loss of life and property has become a profit-making occasion for these traffickers. The fact that these unscrupulous elements do not refrain from their evil acts even in times of calamity, shows utter lack of compassion in them. Such people should not be spared. law-enforcing agencies must not show any mercy and deal with them with an iron hand.
