Shastri-Kohli team can create great magic

Shastri-Kohli team can create great magic

This refers to the editorial, “Shastri is back, after all” (July 13). After weeks of high drama and anxiety post the Anil Kumble-Virat Kohli rift, now at last the Cricket Advisory Committee has named Ravi Shastri as Kumble's replacement — which was an open secret as we were expecting it. Ravi Shastri will start his second stint right from the Sri lanka tour where the Virat Kohli-led team has won the test series in 2015, the last tour the team made to Sri lanka.

Shastri’s management skills are second to none. When he was on the field he was not the best talent in the team but due to his sheer temperament he always punched above his weight. Even during his first stint he ensured that the Indian cricket team was always motivated to perform to its full potential. Giving him charge for a two-year term till the next 50-over 2019 Cricket World Cup is a welcome move. Now he and Kohli can clearly create a path till 2019 for this team. Coming to the inclusion of Rahul Dravid as batting coach and Zaheer Khan as bowling coach, there is absolutely no doubt over their excellent credentials and the kind of massive valuable inputs both can give to this team. Hopefully, Shastri was on the same page over this issue.
