This refers to the editorial, “Third front is a chimera” (May 30). Without doubt, Telugu Desam Party chief Chandrababu Naidu's desire for a third front is an idea that has failed many a time in the past. Even in the present situation, it can hardly materialise as a viable national alternative to the Congress-led UPA regime.
Though conglomerations of various parties have from time to time been making strenuous efforts to forge a suitable alliance to oust the Congress or the BJP rule at the Centre, they could never make any headway. The simple reason for that is, the leaders of these parties have been busy furthering their own ambitions and petty agendas, than in devising a credible common agenda in national and public interest.
At present, there may be anger amongst the people of Andhra Pradesh against the Congress regime in the State, but it does not appear that Mr Naidu can encash it in his favour. He must set his own house in order, before nursing national dreams.
