Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Alliance in Telugu land” (April 8). It was wise of the BJP and the Telugu Desam Party to come together ahead of the election.
Although the BJP had generated goodwill by supporting the creation of a Telangana State, it faced issues in the Seemandhra region. It needed a partner there to remain relevant. Even in Telangana, the BJP-TDP alliance will be able to at least give a fight to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi. By stitching this alliance, the BJP has strengthened its presence in the southern belt, as it already has a strong hold in neighbouring Karnataka.
The alliance is testimony to Mr Narendra Modi’s growing popularity across the country. It is in the game of politics to quit a sinking ship, which the Congress-led UPA is. Political parties and leaders know that Mr Modi is the name of the game in this election.
