There is a method in the madness that Congress leader Digvijaya Singh exhibits with amazing consistency while reacting to any or every event in the country, or to statements of leaders of all political hues, especially the BJP.
Consider the design behind his utterances. He tries, and succeeds, in centering the nation's attention to his rash utterances, leading to a furious public debate. The Opposition has to engage its energy in refuting his silly allegations.
Mr Singh's statements successfully deflect public gaze from the issue at hand, with the result that the Government's acts of omission or commission take a back seat in public discourse, leaving the regime free to continue with its inefficient and corrupt ways. Mr Singh's importance to the ruling dispensation cannot be lightly dismissed. He provides the necessary bulwark to the UPA, which would have been reeling under political attacks by the Opposition leaders and other commentators for its utter failure in providing good governance.
