Sir — This refers to Prasad Bharati Chairman A Surya Prakash’s comment that prime-time news shows resemble “WWF matches”. Mr Prakash is right. The news debates have become a mockery of the tradition of debating and the news delivery style is obnoxious.
Earlier, the Government controlled the electronic media through Doordarshan, which had low credibility with the public. The private channels that have come up now are only interested in increasing their TRP ratings. The only way out of this madness is a robust public broadcaster that can give fair competition to the private channels.
