A new trend is emerging, wherein retired bureaucrats are publishing accounts of their time in office. These narratives are often highly critical of political leaders, and further sensationalised for prime-time news. There is nothing wrong in writing a faithful account of history, but to use the pen for commercial purposes is not done.
Also, let’s not use such accounts to discredit leaders who are not in power.
In politics, some cases call for sensitivity and balanced reporting. The Kandahar episode is one such painful episode.
Also, much is being said about then Prime Minister AB Vajpayee’s views on the violence in Gujarat. These views are not new and were widely known even at that time.
