Sir — A hue and cry has erupted over the conversion of Muslims to Hinduism in Agra, under the alleged aegis of the RSS. Actually, this should be described as re-conversion, as the ancestors of those Muslims were Hindus at some point of time. low-caste Hindus were lured by the liberal message of Islam providing for a casteless society. Most of them were coerced by the sword to embrace Islam. While the RSS’s alleged move cannot be encouraged, the hullabaloo is not supportable.
Christian missionaries, on the contrary, solely depend on philanthropic activities for proselytising. They never used the sword. They also did not encourage the new converts to outnumber the indigenous population by abandoning the practice of family planning.
