Selective memory

Sir — This refers to the article “The sordid politics of religious conversions” (December 17) by Rajesh Singh. Here is a joke told by village entertainers: ‘People were asked whether they saw Mr X sitting on an elephant. They denied doing so. The next question was whether they him falling off the animal. The gathering shouted in one voice that they did.’ Our secularists didn’t see the conversion but have surely seen the re-conversion.
