Sir — This refers to the news report, “BJP: 100 % FDI in private security may compromise strategic institutes” (June 30). There is no end to the Congress-led UPA Government’s ‘FDI syndrome’.
Our domestic savings can take care of the investments in all sectors, and it is only in high-tech areas that we really require foreign direct investment to enable transfer of technology.
Allowing FDI in private security agencies which are involved in securing key institutions like ports, oil refineries, airports, power projects and other similar institutions of strategic importance, and also ancient monuments, will have serious implications. Even after the much-hyped agreement with the US on civil nuclear cooperation, little investment has come our way. Unfortu-nately, the UPA lacks the spine to tell the West that investing in nuclear power is a precondition for FDI in other sectors.
