Securing depots

Published on:

This refers to the editorial, “Ammunations ablaze” (June 2). The tragic accident at the ammunition depot at Pulgaon points to the inherent deficiencies and flaws in our military’s storage capability. The Army is already reeling under shortage of ammunition. Moreover, this incident will give wrong signals to our neighbours.

Safety and security of our ammunition depots must be the top priority. Rather than one big depot, there should be multiple depots catering to the requirement of specific commands. Nuclear and ballistic missile systems must be stored deep underground and separately from ordinary ammunition.
