Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Phone an enemy, get info” (March 7). The incident is unfortunate, disappointing and weird. Being dutiful also demands being rational. All official correspondence should be in writing, so that it can be called to account, when doubts are raised.
The Army is a vital organisation of the country, responsible for safeguarding the interests of the nation, which also means guarding highly sensitive and confidential information. The recent episode has somewhat hit the credibility of the officers in command. Also, the political culture of giving ‘oral’ commands seems to have influenced the Army to a great extent.
