School fees too high

Published on:

Sir — There was a time when the downtrodden used to sell their properties to meet the cost of higher education of their children. It was believed that no property commanded as much value as education.Time has changed. People are unable to meet the ever-increasing school fees payable at the time of admission to schools.

What is alarming is that school fees being raised are disproportionate to the inflationary spiral. The Government must regulate school fees if it wants to make education affordable to all. Private school managements raise their fees abnormally but the teachers working in these institutions are ill-paid.  The need of the hour is to shackle the private school managements against arbitrary increase in fees. Educational institutions must not assume the role of  commercial establishments.
