Save humour

Published on:

Sir — Prime Minister Narendra Modi desires to restore wit and humour in parliamentary proceedings. In fact, he had even recalled the old days of earlier Parliaments when even senior political personalities would laughingly and without rancour autograph their own cartoons.

But now, a hue and cry has been made on mimicries of some parliamentarians that were aired on certain private radio channels. Even the Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting has said that he will do something about this issue, after a Member of the Rajya Sabha expressed her acute displeasure with the double entendres that radio jockeys sometimes use.

This intolerance of our elected representatives is disappointing and must not be encouraged. It shows that wit and humour are not acceptable to our politicians. The Prime Minister must ensure that our parliamentarians do not object to the use of wit and humour in public life.
