Save banks

Sir — This refers to the article, “Rising NPAs, threat to economy” (March 28) by Sudhansu R Das. The article should serve as an eye-opener for our bureaucratic mandarins at the helm in the financial sector, and also the Government, who have been particularly steering our public sector banks (PSBs). 

It is appalling that our PSBs have written off billions of money as non-performing assets in the past two decades. Amazingly, a lions share of the benefits have been dubiously availed by bigwigs in the corporate sector. Political outfits unhesitatingly assure periodic loan relief schemes, which ultimately retract even genuine borrowers in repaying the loans availed by them. In the current scenario, the need of hour is a comprehensive revival of our banking policies.
