This refers to the report, “Pilot, 6 Vaishno Devi pilgrims killed in crash” (November 24). This incident is indeed tragic and has brought to the fore several issues to that need to be addressed on a priority basis.
The accident is a grim reminder of the fact that helicopter crashes have been happening too frequently in the country. Serving Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Arunachal Pradesh lost their lives in helicopter crashes.
One of the reasons for such incidents is that India has a poor air safety record and not much has been done to increase the safety of air passengers.
