This refers to the article, “Collective effort must for Rohingya crisis resolution” (January 8) by Manash Ghosh. The writer, while quoting a senior Bangladeshi diplomat said that the Rohingya crisis is a result of Chinese economic aggression, detrimental to Bangladesh. Strangely, according to media reports, Bangladesh bought two submarines from China. Saudi Arabia being the birthplace of Islam, is duty bound to spread it globally by any means. Pakistan, the sole owner of the Islamic atomic bomb, is intimidating Bangladesh directly. India on the other hand is indirectly instigating this crisis with help from non-state actors. Ironically, Bangladesh is playing the victim card, forgetting that it had reduced its Hindu population from 30 per cent to 20 per cent in its East Pakistan avatar and to less than seven per cent now.
Besides, it is an open secret that Bangladesh wants to reduce its population by flooding the world in general and India in particular. Even among the 400,000 Rohigya refugees in Bangladesh, at least 40,000 have sneaked into India and have been demanding asylum in the name of humanitarianism. The number of these refugees pales into insignificance when compared to the number of Bangladeshis residing in India, legally and illegally. The writer should have enquired about the fate and status of non-Muslim minorities in Bangladesh from his hosts in the back drop of Dhaka playing victim vis-a-vis Rohingyas.
