Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Trouble along a river” (April 11). Thanks to the Union Government’s generosity, India’s trade relations are heavily weighted in favour of China — to the extent that cheap Chinese goods are dumped in our markets, nearly destroying Indian manufacturing. Yet, there is hardly any softening in China’s attitude. As usual, India’s response is both credulous and weak, having scant effect on our highly powerful, arrogant neighbour. We seem to ignore that those who forget history, are condemned to repeat it.
