Sir — Ahead of the second death anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani, in South Kashmir’s Redwani village, security forces had to use force to confront stone-pelters, as a result of which, three civilians lost their lives.
Although, Governor NN Vohra convened a high-level meeting and asked the Army and the security agencies to follow laid down Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) so as to exercise restraint, but the pertinent question is whether the security agencies can exercise restraint in the face of grave provocation.
In order to maintain law and order in Kashmir, security agencies might have to take swift action against those elements who resort to violent means.
