This refers to the article, “Don’t shortchange the soldier” (September 8) by Deepak Sinha. The olive green community is, perhaps, engaged in its hardest crusade ie the implementation of one-rank-one-pension. The bureaucratic red tape on part of successive Governments has weakened the morale of the young serving officers and disillusioned the ex-Servicemen community. Denying them rightful share of the pie, which other cogs of the governmental machine are enjoying, is but injustice to the young lad who has sacrificed to keep our frontiers safe and sound.
Indian Armed Forces are short of the required strength already. Against the backdrop of multifaceted danger including the Chinese menace, the Pakistani threat, the extremist movements, the insurgent military and the Islamic State’s advancement, the Government must leave no stone unturned to incentivise career in the defence sector as well as to swell the ranks of the military.
