Sir — This refers to the article, “Bharatiya Janata Party’s Uttar Pradesh challenge” (June 15) by Rajesh Singh. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is the most appropriate person to be projected as the chief ministerial candidate for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election. In the past many national leaders have become the head of the State.
The last Governor-General of India, C Rajagopalachari, became the Chief Minister of Madras. Similarly, ND Tiwari, once the Finance and Foreign Minister, became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Hence, it is in the BJP’s interest that the most populous State of India, which has lagged behind in terms of development, law and order and welfare, should bring back its pride of place in India’s development under the leadership of Singh.
