Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Advani’s bipartisanship” (August 20). Veteran BJP leader lK Advani can put all the mischief-mongers out of business by declaring he is not in the race for the country’s top job. His stature will not be dented one bit by such a declaration. He has reached such a high level in the public domain that he does not have to depend on positions to be relevant or important.
Mr Advani must in all earnestness take on the mantle of a mentor, rather than that of a challenger, and let the young turks of the party lead the charge. Given his deep experience in politics and public life, he is suited as no other leader is from across the political spectrum to be a philosopher and guide. The BJP needs his services.
