The online RTI system for the Union Government is quite user-friendly and effective. One gets a host of important information, sitting at home or office at the click of the mouse.
The Government deserves a pat on the back for this. However, there is an urgent need to launch another website on similar lines for the Delhi Government. The present website is not effective and personal visits are required to be made for filing RTI applications and appeals.
E-Governance is a major step towards eradication of corruption. One can only hope that Delhi’s new Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal — who is well aware of the significance of the RTI Act — will ensure that the necessary steps are taken in this regard.
Also, the Central Information Commission’s website, through which RTI complaints and appeals can be filed, deserves immediate attention. The website is hardly updated and as a result, the same pendency status is displayed for months together.
