Retrograde step

Published on:

Sir — This refers to the article, “Good and bad of small and big” (August 12) by KG Suresh. The writer has done well to articulate the concern that excessive fragmentation of States will cause more harm than good. True, smaller States may be easier to manage and administer, but it also means having many more regional parties which will add up to the confusion.

As we have seen presently, strong regional parties with their pockets of influence often seem to hold the Centre to ransom. In times of increasing globalisation and a holistic approach in governance, carving out smaller States will be an ill-advised and retrogressive step.
