Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Ailing Taj” (July 18). The state and appearance of the Taj, the second best Unesco world heritage site in the world, has deteriorated because of high levels of environmental pollution. While emissions from polluting industries are a problem, the .discharge of effluents into the Yamuna have aggravated the problem.
To restore the once-gleaming Taj to its pristine glory is not an easy task. Nonetheless, refurbishing and reconditioning it should be a national priority. Green fuels and bio-fuels can reduce pollution reasonably and should be introduced in Agra to cut down pollution levels. The Government must come down heavily on the industrial units.
