Restore old game

Published on:

Sir — This refers to the article, “let’s have the old game back.

Period” (June 14) by Padma Rao Sundarji. We have been patronised by a money-hungry corporation which obviously has hijacked the original version of online Scrabble, and forced the infantile ‘improved’, but actually diluted, version upon us in order to attract more players across the world in languages other than English.

It was a great opportunity to pass on the elegance of the game, but it’s now become ‘McScrabble’. We, the serious players, both adult and young people, have lost a valuable social and educational form of recreation. The impact on the serious Scrabble player is enormous. I resent the demise of our online Scrabble as we knew it. The online game could have been developed rather than diluted. Shame on them!
