Respect laws

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “No way to treat an envoy” (December 16). The Government has to delicately handle the issue considering that it cannot offend the United States on sensitive matters.

That the US’s obsession with the laws of its land borders on arrogance, is a known fact. Though Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade’s offence was not related to the discharge of her consular duties, the fact that she invited trouble, according to US laws, cannot be overlooked.
