Respect law

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Playing victimhood card” (December 5). The way partymen from the Trinamool Congress responded to the arrest of TMC leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay is unfortunate. If they feel that Bandyopadhyay has been wrongly arrested, they should have faith in the law of the land.

What was even more shocking was the response of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and TMC MP Derek O’Brien. Maintaining law and order is Banerjee’s responsibility. She must not add fuel to fire in such a tense scenario. Though Banerjee has always maintained clean image, with no corruption charges against her, the chit fund scam ruined her image. Prominent leaders from the TMC have been linked to the Rose Valley chit fund scam, which cannot be just a coincidence.

Banerjee may not be directly linked with this scam, but she, being the Chief Minister of the State, should respect the law and let it take its course rather than spread false propaganda that her partymen have been a victim of the BJP’s vendetta politics.
