Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Anti-lynching law” (July 19). It is a matter of concern that on the very day of the Supreme Court’s cracking whip on mob violence, social activist Swami Agnivesh was attacked by a mob in Jharkhand. There seems to be an unholy nexus between street kangaroos and a section of social media which needs to be dealt with on a war footing. Street justice shows no regard to the rule of law.
Fringe elements have become so emboldened that they have now thrown down the gauntlet to the law of the land. We cannot let the mob hijack India from the progressive path of modernity and development to the regressive path leading to jungle raj where the might of hyenas is the right.
