Sir — This refers to the report, “Congress demands sacking of Smriti, Dattatreya” (January 22). One of Parliament’s main role is to debate and pass laws. The Opposition’s role is of constructive criticism so as to ensure that the best interests of the people and the country are served.
In our country, the sole role of the Opposition is to demand the resignation of various Ministers on one or the other issue and stick to the demand.
While the BJP did the same when the Congress-led UPA regime was in power, it is now the Congress’s turn when the BJP-led NDA regime is heading the Government.
Parliament’s Winter Session was a big disappointment and largely a repeat of the Monsoon Session, with the Opposition demanding the resignation of various Ministers.
long-pending reform Bills including the crucial Goods and Services Tax Bill could not be passed. The Congress should stop using the politics of resignation and favour the upcoming Budget Session.
