This refers to the article, “China’s ‘good monk’ versus ‘bad monk’” (December 31) by Claude Arpi. Reports say that in China, some fake ‘living Buddhas’ are cheating people out of their savings or luring them into sexual activities using religious practice as an excuse.
This is something that is similar to the Congress’s propaganda in India that all upper caste Hindus (particularly the business class) are dishonest. In India, it was all dictated by the desire of the ruling class (the Congress), to hold on to its gaddi for as long as it could, because the upper caste Hindus were their main electoral enemies.
