Replicate Gujarat model

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Good scheme gone bad” (July 19).

One would like to mention here that in Gujarat, before the mid-day meal is distributed, it is tasted by five members of non-teaching and teaching staff, including the principal, of the school. This is done 15 minutes before the distribution. Added to this, is the provision of inspection of the meal three days a week by administrative officials of the rank of Sub-Divisional Magistrate and above.

The days of inspection are randomly selected. That’s why incidents such as those of Bihar and Delhi are foreign to this State. This is ‘Modi-governance’, of which Gujarat is rightly proud of, and Bihar, Delhi et al are deprived of.
