Sir — It was a harrowing experience to watch India’s Daughter, and that too on the eve of International Women’s Day. The documentary is based on the brutal rape and consequent death of Nirbhaya. The documentary has sparked a controversy primarily because it carries an interview of one of the convicts now in jail, who justified the incident.
Different people have different takes on the issue. Having watched and listened to the despicable views of the convict, it is evident to one that he has not changed since his punishment. This regressive attitude is deeply ingrained in the minds of many men. Even the lawyers of the convicts have been shown speaking their mind without remorse.
But none of us must be taken by surprise by these developments, because the punishment that is normally pronounced on rapists is lighter than what they deserve. let us see when all this changes for the better.
