This refers to the editorial “Cautious Optimism” (December 2). GDP growth shot up in the September quarter. This is very important for the future prospect of the BJP as the constant decline of the last five quarters was troublesome for the party and pushed it on the backfoot in Gujarat. Additionally this new statistic indicates that perhaps the impact of two significant structural reforms, GST and demonetisation, is going down. But it does not mean the economy has overcome its crisis completely. One terrible statistic is in the agriculture sector which has dipped to 1.7 per cent, compared to the last September quarter which registered 4.1 per cent growth.
