Sir — This refers to the report that Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, has called for the Muslim world to arm itself against Israel. The statement is meant to add fuel to the fire that is raging in Gaza. It will be difficult for anybody to counter Israel’s determination to strike at terror. Even if all the neighbouring Muslim countries join together, they cannot stand up to Israel’s resolve. This has been demonstrated over the decades.
Hamas, a terrorist organisation, supported by many Muslim countries and backed with the supply of arms and ammunition, is the real culprit. It provoked Israel with its rocket-firing, which proved ineffective, thanks to the Iron Dome.
As long as the West supports Israel to checkmate the Arabs and keep their oil interests protected, Israel cannot be tackled. The Arab nations, keeping the Palestinians’ peaceful co-existence in view, should compel Hamas to mend its ways. A peace process involving all stakeholders including the Palestine Authority, should be brokered by the UN.
