Rampant corruption

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Electoral fraud exposed” (April 11). All things remaining same, what was new in the RK Nagar by-election in Tamil Nadu, was its deferral on the grounds of unfair electoral practices. The myth of sales pitch for demonetisation, that it would provide divine remedy to end black money, has been blown away in a matter of few months.

This appeared in the form of crisper and compact currency on Chennai streets. The concoction perhaps had some potency for the less prepared political outfits in Uttar Pradesh elections. But soon enough, all parties together managed to dilute the potion into a newly labelled bottle of political funding they put up to adorn the parliamentary shelves. After all, gears of democracy need copious but silent lubrication.
