Sir— This refers to the editorial, “Rajinikanth the politicianIJ” (May 17). The editorial has very aptly covered the ramifications of iconic star’s entry in politics. There is little doubt that Rajinikanth’s popularity is unmatched and his decision whether to launch a new outfit or join an existing party — would largely polarise Tamil Nadu politics. People must not forget that if celluloid stars like MG Ramachandran, J Jayalalithaa and M Karunanidhi have made a mark in politics, a much larger number has failed to live up to the people’s expectations, being over-ambitious.
