This refers to the editorial, “Rajinikanth the politicianIJ” (May 17). As usual, superstar-actor Rajinikanth has proved that he is consistently inconsistent in decision making. The speech in the just concluded photo-shoot meet is not only ambiguous but quite confusing too. There can be no second opinion that his fans who arrived from various parts of Tamil Nadu should have returned a disappointed lot as they
wanted a firm ‘yes’ or ‘no’ from the film-star to their cherished wish that their matinee idol should enter politics,win the election and become the Chief Minister of the State.
Alas! What they fail to realise is that their demigod is fully aware of the fact that politics is a very slippery platform and becoming the winning horse is not that easy, as he is not Marudur Gopalan Ramachandran better known as MGR. Even MGR who was considered unbeatable has lost elections. Moreover, Rajinikanth, who seems to be very tight-fisted as far as spending is concerned, would never be ready to open his treasury for political purposes. His fans should also realise that he does gimmicks whenever his films are about to hit the box office, and this time it is Enthiran 2. His fans should work for the success of his films, instead.
