This refers to the editorial, “Rajan's harmless remark” (April 22). This is not the first time that Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan has let his loose tongue to dominate his thinking. It is saddening that Rajan, who holds the most important post of the head of the nation's treasury and its financial and banking system, tends to forget that he does not enjoy the liberty of making seemingly smart one-liners such as andhon men kana raja (in the land of the blind, one-eyed man is king), that lack sensitivity and propriety.
Rajan’s thoughtless comment was rejected by Union Minister of State for Commerce Nirmala Sitharaman; she saw it as a taunt, a dig, on the Government's economic performance. Raghuram Rajan may be good at his work, but the RBI chief’s foot-in-the-mouth tendency does him no credit. He should be more careful the next time he decides to comment on issues and avoid being controversial.
