This is to draw attention to the miserable plight of lakhs of commuters who use local train services between Delhi-Ghaziabad-Shahdara-Vivek Vihar-Sahibabad and New Delhi stations everyday to earn their livelihood. Most of the electric multiple unit trains run late on a daily basis. This results not only in public inconvenience, but also increases inefficiency of the railway administration. local EMU trains are used by people who work in Government offices, colleges and factories, where punctuality is a must. Due to a delay in train journey, the staff and workers are put to monetary loss as they are not allowed to join their duty and are marked absent for the day. In most cases, this has caused serious unemployment to the workers.
Before introducing high speed trains, Indian Railways must ensure that the local trains, that run on short distances, operate on time. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu must personally probe into the matter and direct the officials concerned to improve the service of local trains.
