This refers to the article, “How much does Cong VP know, when will he knowIJ” (March 3) by Arun Jaitley. The writer has correctly diagnosed Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's problem: Mr Gandhi’s tendency to indulge in low-level banter and accusations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and his lack of facts. Mr Modi, in his reply in the lok Sabha, indirectly hinted at Mr Gandhi's absence of understanding.
Watching Mr Gandhi’s speech in the House on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address, on TV news channels, I marvelled at his naivete in attacking his chief adversary in a crude and juvenile manner, which did no credit to the grand old party, once led by Jawaharlal Nehru and which position he is about to occupy. The Congress has already become a rump, down to 44 MPs in the 2014 election, from over 400 MPs during Rajiv Gandhi's prime ministership. Mr Jaitley notes that despite his entry into the middle age, Mr Gandhi does not seem to have evolved as a mature, knowledgeable politician.
