Rahul's 1984 pretence rubs salt into wounds

This refers to the editorial, “Falsehood doesn't sell” (February 1). It is an open secret that Mr Rahul Gandhi was not prepared for the television interview. He had not got his facts right. The 1984 massacre of Sikhs happened right under the nose of the Congress leaders of that time. And the way then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi chose to remain aloof, despite then President Giani Zail Singh's attempt to contact him, proves that the Congress was behind the violence.

Rajiv Gandhi had lost his mother in terrible circumstances, but nothing justifies the violence that followed. Mr Rahul Gandhi either does not know the facts or he has acted ignorant. It was silly on his part to say that his party tried to defuse the situation. Even the police force under the Congress regime was biased. It was state-sponsored killing. By comparing the 1984 violence with the 2002 violence in Gujarat, the Congress is merely trying to shift the focus.
