Rahul outburst was drama and a face-saving tactic

This refers to the article, “Brand Rahul sweeps PM aside” (October 4) by Kaushik Deka. It is wrong to say that the unbelievable scenes that one is witnessing these days regarding convicted MPs losing their seats would not have been possible without Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi taking a stand against the ordinance. The fact is that the President was not ready to sign the ordinance. This was well-known and, therefore, the Congress and the UPA Government would have lost face in that eventuality.

Mr Gandhi only tried to save the battered image of the Congress and its first family by dramatising the situation and posing himself as a crusader against corruption. People are not going to accept that the present Government and the Nehru-Gandhi family are different entities. All these years, the Congress's first family has been controlling the Manmohan Singh-led Government. When things go right, the family gets the credit; when they don't, the Government has to take the flak.
