Rahul is no Kejriwal, will not be able to succeed

Published on:

This refers to the article, “Rahul Gandhi's Kejriwal moment” (April 15) by Bhupendra Chaubey. Mr Arvind Kejriwal is an astute politician, notwithstanding his 49-day fiasco, called the AAP Delhi Government. On his comeback, whether his ‘sorry' remark was a mere opportunistic gamble or a hypocritical attempt to fool the gullible, he somehow succeeded in appearing as a penitent, ready-to-make-amends politician. With Mr Rahul Gandhi, however, there are three factors that go against his succeeding in charming the voters back to the Congress. He epitomises the inherent arrogance, complete lack of humility and the smugness of the Congress, even in the face of near annihilation.

Second, the total absence of indication of his getting down to the job and rallying everyone, goes against him. last, Mr Kejriwal had to reckon with only the local population of Delhi, and he could lure them with promises and sops. Mr Gandhi has to deal with an entire country against the Congress.
